Creating with Cabochons Blog Hop

It's finally time for the hop.   Sally Russick  of the Studio Sublime sent out the call to create something using a cabochon.   I've done cabochons with seed beads but what I've been wanting to do is to set one with tabs.  I haven't made tabs before so this was the perfect push to get me going on this.

I decided to use copper since this was my first time...didn't want to use silver just in case I made a big goof.  I measured and drew out the pattern.  Then got out my trusty saw.  It turned out really well.  I had to cut down the tabs quite a bit but didn't have to do too much filing on the backing.  YAY!!

Of course, I waited until the last minute to take the picture so the lighting isn't the best.  I'm not sure where I'll go with it now.  Chain, leather, stringing.  Decisions, decisions....

I'm excited to see what everyone else made.

  1. Great job! This is a method I've been wanting to try out. Maybe I'll actually get to it.

  2. Great job, your stone is so pretty, and using copper at first is very smart! I love how you tab set it, and the bail. Did you attach the cab to the copper with any glue of any kind?

  6. I have seen quite a few tab set cabs on this hop and I am totally in love with this look! Love that jasper cab - you could hang it on a piece of string and it would look beautiful!

  10. I think a leather cord with a few copper accent beads would make a great way to present this beautifully bezzeled piece. So simple, but so elegant.
